Recommended Posts

Im sure infact, I know there are several threads dating back to when Jesus was around, but I would like some up to date advice on what oil to put in the Interceptor.(First 900 miles)

Subaru have quoted me £100 for Shell Helix oil, filter, changed

Kiwk Fit (just thought I would ask as they are across the way), Mobil 1, £50, filter, changed

Hyperrtek- havent heard back

Greers- Havent spoken to them

I think I used to use motul 15w50 and or millers 10w60

What is best?

Buy your own oil and take it to Subaru?

Semi synthetic when running an engine in then onto fully :)

The good think about getting it changed at ANY garage is a stamp in the book, not required to be a stealers stamp either!

they cant do anything to void your warranty as long as any work has been carried out by a vat reg garage using correct grade of oil and subaru parts (i.e oil filter)

Genuine Subaru filter and sump washer, and should be Shell Helix 5w40, but I recommend 10w50 Silkolene ProS - runs better and not as thick as 10w60

Depends what you use your car for craig and what price you can get the millers for. There is no comparison between shell helix and Millers oils and given what the dealer charges for the shell helix it is a no brainer. The CFS 10w60 may be a little thicker than some like for a road car, I have it in my road car as i used to use it in the RA and had some left. When i change it next I will use CFS 10W50 in the road car. For pure track cars Motul 300v is, in my opinion, the best choice.

For the record it DOES require to be a 'STEALERS' stamp as its under the Subaru Proven scheme, this warranty doesn't fall into the block exemption ruling that for instance a New car warranty would. If it has any work carried out by A N Other then the warranty is null and void.

Hope this clears this up for you Chris.

WoW no sheet! Take the car to http://www.halleysgarage.co.uk/ and save a bit of fuel & mileage Chris, no brainer and a registered Subaru dealer!

Lol for an oil change & you stay in Glasgow too

Thats if you trust Halley's with your car.

Halleys had my STI 8 in for something trivial in 2006. I clocked the mileage before I handed it in. I was then delayed and couldnt get it back for a few days. mileage was a lot higher than when it went in.

Wouldnt go back

Oil changed at Ian Grieves today, splitter replaced, ECU reset. Im happy with the service. I could even understand what they were saying if I listened closely.

I always take my road car to Ian Grieves, bought it there and have nothing but help and brilliant service since, only problem is a shady character called Gav who lurks around there <_<

Checking my levels today and could do with a top up. Think I used Helix 5/30 before but after reading up on it again, I'm wondering if I should try Millers 10/60? Car is used for normal road use with some 'accelerations'. Should I stick with the 5w as the weather is turning colder? Will I notice any difference? And the handbook says to use 5w/30. Car will get serviced soon so if I top up with Millers etc now, I'd get the oil change with that as well.

Cheers

Richie, I used to use Millers 10w60 all year round. Great for road and track use, didnt cause any issues in the winter and im happiest with that.

After 12 months I will be going back to it

Ok, cheers Chris. Now just to pop to my local Halfords and get some...or not! With not driving for a few weeks I've got time on my side to get it delivered!
