Hi all, we have a question for you! :D It's one I've been bouncing around my head for a couple of months now and the Committee have agreed that it's a question that would be better answered by you guys as opposed to us making the call. So, on with the preamble...

As much of a success as the digital True Grip has been fantastic to see and a real achievement for the club, there are a number of members who, quite rightly, miss the traditional printed format.

Now whilst we're not in the position financially to reinstate True Grip as an exclusively print-based magazine, we do have the opportunity to offer True Grip for sale to those who are desperate for it to once again return to print (so you can once again feel the gentle touch of paper and ink on your legs as you sit on the throne) via a service called MagCloud.

MagCloud offers us the opportunity to create commercial quality magazines, printed on demand with no upfront costs or minimum print runs.

This does however mean that the cost per issue comes out at £5.75 (printed full colour and perfect bound). I'm more than happy to facilitate this service for members but only if that is something that you would be keen to see happen.

The club will have no direct involvement other than supplying the files for print and will make no profit from the sale of each issue to members. We are aware that the price is higher than we might have hoped but unfortunately it's fixed at $0.20(usd) per page.

We're not trying to sell ice to Eskimo's, merely offering a third-party service to those that might wish to use it. It will take a considerable amount of my time to implement (as TG will need the format changing in order to fit with MagClouds requirements) so I'll only do this if there's sufficient interest.

All we need to know is if you guys would like to see this happen! Me, I'm well excited! :boldblue:

Just to add, this will not in any way affect the current digital issues that you can view at http://www.sidc.co.uk/truegrip

Hi Stu,

Personally, I'm happy with the digital version, but I think its great that we can offer members who really want the print version an option to get it, even if it costs a little.

Having seen the previous publishing costs at the AGM, I can really appreciate how much the magazine was costing the club to print, so there really is no other option at the moment.

Either way keep up the great work Stu (& Rach), we really appreciate the efforts your putting in to TG :icon_salut:
Enter the photo competition! :)

Definate yes!

I'll be hoenst I have only read one of the electronic ones and that was the first one just to see how stu got on with it.. I always read printed ones practically cover to cover.. Electronic ones are of no interest to me as I dont like reading that sort of content on screen.. Prefer to sit back and flick through pages away from the computer or other electronic devices..

Printed all the way! (despite being more costly)

Just to throw a question into the mix (which i probably already know the answer to). What are the thoughts of subsidising the printed copies further for Lifetime (sorry 10 year *sigh*...) members? Or even free for them as an incentive..

Ideally I'd like to see it printed ones being free for all members But I know that's not going to happen with the current situation.

I like both versions, one you can read in work and not get into trouble for and the other for lounging around in the garden, not sure which one is which though :) I have left glossy mens mags on my work desktop and always get a few comments and queries and they are car mags obviously :)

I don't mind paying extra for the printed version, as in life if you want something extra you have to pay, simples :)

With yes getting 85% of the votes so far I would say that's reason enough to push things forward wouldn't you! :D

So, with that in mind, I'll get things set up and ready to roll out to MagCloud. I'll be sure to keep you all posted on progress but it may be a couple of weeks before the issue is available in print (although it WILL be available in the usual digital formats as of next weekend).

Isn't it that old John Wayne cowboy film, 'get off your horse and drink your milk' ?
